Last night, the Liberty Perry School Board accepted a gracious and deeply meaningful gift from Mr. Bob Taylor and his late wife, Eileen, longtime champions of Wapahani athletics and Liberty Perry students. Mr. Taylor was present as the Board formally approved the “Taylor Legacy Scholarship,” honoring both his and Eileen’s lifelong commitment to supporting student athletes.
The Taylor Legacy Scholarship has been established to celebrate the life and legacy of Bob and Eileen Taylor, two individuals whose dedication to athletics, character, and student success has shaped countless young people. The scholarship will recognize Wapahani student athletes who exemplify Bob’s values of commitment, sportsmanship, and excellence on and off the field, while also honoring Eileen’s shared belief in supporting students in every aspect of their journey.
Bob’s story is one of remarkable accomplishment. A three sport athlete from Dayton, Ohio, he went on to play football at the University of Cincinnati before advancing his studies at MIT, launching a distinguished career as an architect. His work across East Central Indiana and his years of service as a school board member in Yorktown reflect his passion for strengthening educational opportunities for all students. His lifelong support of young athletes and his belief in the power of teamwork, perseverance, and learning continue through this scholarship.
Beginning this year, the Taylor Legacy Scholarship will be awarded annually in the amount of $1,200 plus interest earned on the investment of the initial donation. The award will be presented at the Wapahani Awards Program and will support graduating Raider student athletes who demonstrate strong character, academic commitment, leadership, and dedication to team and community.
We extend our deepest appreciation to Mr. Taylor for his generosity, his presence at last night’s meeting, and his unwavering support of Wapahani student athletes past, present, and future. The Taylor legacy will continue to shape Raider pride for generations to come.
