Reopening Plan for Students and Employees

2021-2022

 Updated July 13, 2021

Introduction

Since the onset of COVID, Liberty-Perry Community School Corporation has worked closely with the Delaware County Health Department and other local school districts to ensure student and employee safety and consistent, best practices.  This has included a regular review of guidance from the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Department of Health, the Delaware County Health Department, and other agencies.

This document is designed to provide guidance for the reopening of school for Liberty-Perry Community Schools for 2021-22. This plan could change depending upon the local spread of COVID but our goal is to continue serving the students and patrons of the district as thoughtfully as possible.

 Reopening Status

Liberty-Perry Community Schools will operate on a normal, in-person schedule for the 2021-22 school year.  Liberty-Perry teachers will return on Thursday, August 5, 2021.  Liberty-Perry students will return on Monday, August 9, 2021.

Masks

* At school, masks will be optional for all students and staff.

* The CDC has an order in place requiring masks while using public transportation; this order includes school buses. Respectfully, Liberty-Perry Community Schools asks that all bus riders comply with this order for as long as it is in effect.  Order: Wearing of face masks while on conveyances and at transportation hubs | Quarantine | CDC

 Screening

* Students and staff should self-screen each morning before coming to school.   If you believe your child may be experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, please follow protocols.

* There are many reasons a child may feel ill that are NOT related to COVID-19. If your child is not feeling well and you have no reason to believe his or her symptoms are related to COVID-19, simply report your child sick and keep him or her home until symptoms are improving and your child is fever-free for 24 hours.

 Vaccination

* Everyone 12 years of age and older is eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

* Vaccination is NOT required for students or staff.

* Fully-vaccinated students and staff do NOT have to quarantine as a result of being exposed to a positive case of COVID-19.

 Additional Measures

* Normal pre-COVID school procedures will resume, including arrival, passing periods, lunch, and dismissal.

* Drinking fountains will be available to students.  Hand sanitizer will be readily available in cafeterias and at main entrances.

* Visitors/volunteers will be permitted during the school day.  Parents may make appointments to complete business in school offices.  Unvaccinated persons are encouraged to wear face masks inside of the school.

 Contact Tracing and Quarantine

* Currently, we will be required by the Indiana Department of Health to contact trace again this school year when we become aware of a positive case of COVID-19 at school.

* Unvaccinated students and staff who are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 will have to quarantine.

* Fully-vaccinated students and staff do NOT have to quarantine as a result of being exposed to a positive case of COVID-19.

Food Service

* Breakfast and lunch will be free for all students in grades K-12. Extra items/meals are available for purchase.

* Student seating in cafeterias will return to pre-COVID status, but principals will have plans for social distancing during lunch periods to be used if needed.

 Transportation

* Shuttle buses will be provided for all regular routes.

* Assigned seating is required on each bus.

* Students will not be allowed to ride home with other students on other routes. They must ride their designated route.

 School Calendar

The district will follow the adopted 2021-22 school calendar.

Class Parties/Field Trips/Convocations

* Class parties can be conducted by teachers. Parents and guardians may be allowed to participate as long as they are in accordance with district and school policies.

* Field trips and convocations will resume. They will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Extracurricular

* We believe all extra-curricular activities will occur for the 2021-22 school year.

* We plan to operate all extracurricular events at full capacity.

Building-Level Closures

In the event of a school-wide or district-wide outbreak of COVID, administrators will determine if a closure is needed.  Any closed school will move to same-day eLearning for the duration of the closure.

Virtual Option

Liberty-Perry Community Schools will not have an online school available. However, students that have health concerns may ask for a 504 or special education accommodation.

 Employee Leave

Employee leave will return to normal, pre-COVID status for the 2021-22 school year.  There will be no additional COVID leave for the 2021-22 school year.  Employees will use normal, pre-COVID leave for any COVID-related absences.
