Principal's Page - Selma Elementary

Welcome to Selma Elementary - home of the Braves. My name is Lesley Moulton and it is a privilege to serve as the principal of this amazing school. It is a special place where students blossom during the earliest years of their school journey. It is a joy to meet our students as shy kindergarteners and leave as confident fifth graders who are ready for middle school and beyond. SES is the home to about 550 students in Pre-K through 5th grade. We offer a variety of learning opportunities during the school day and many extracurricular activities as well. We offer many athletic opportunities through Jr. Pro as well as STEM, Robotics, Choir, Spell Bowl and Math Bowl.

Our caring staff and teachers care about each child and help them all reach their best potential. We are proud to provide students with a quality academic education. Our students have shown tremendous growth in Reading and Math over the last several years. We were even recognized as one of three schools in the state for the 2023 Excellence in Academic Gains Award by the Indiana Department of Education.

Academics are just part of the success at Selma Elementary. We teach students to “Do the right thing and treat people right.” We also have a focus on lifelines, which help students grow and develop into kind and respectful citizens. One current area we are focusing on is building up strong student leaders through our Impact Ambassador program. Students in grades 4 and 5 have the opportunity to teach their peers and younger students about lifeline character traits.

We are a proud Professional Development School in a partnership with Ball State University. Each semester, we invite several pre-service teachers to learn from our amazing teachers. This is a special relationship that benefits our students as well as future teachers. We also have strong partnerships with Wapahani High School groups such as the Theatre Department, National Honor Society and more.

We truly believe that parents are our partners. Kids learn best when we have a strong relationship between home and school. Be sure to watch for our monthly newsletter link. Follow Selma Elementary School on
Facebook or follow me on X (formerly Twitter.) Good communication between home and school is a key to your child’s success. Be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher if you ever have questions or concerns. Let’s make this the best school year yet!
